My Online Marketing Adventure with Alex & Friends

My first blog & it’s homework.

Although I enjoy writing, I’m out of my comfort zone because this feels an awful lot like standing in front of an unseen audience and talking about myself.  I hate it, actually because I prefer to be in the background and tell other people’s stories, but you know what?  I’ll get over it and I’ll tell you why in a moment, but first a sentence about myself.

The name is Nikolett Summers and although it’s a pseudonym, what you’ll get is 100% pure me.  I’m doing this because like I said, it’s homework.  Currently, I’m part of Alex Jeffrey’s Coaching Program and if he says blogging is important, then that’s what I’m going to do, whether I have a clue or not…which by the way, I don’t.  But I’ve managed to surround myself with a fantastic coach (Alex) and some pretty talented fellow students.  However, I haven’t always been so blessed.

You see, not long ago I was struggling to make money on-line.  I use the term “struggling” loosely.  What I should really say is I was failing miserably online.  (Truly, I made a whopping $30 for 12 months worth of online attempts.) I’ll admit it.  But I started to realize that without a teacher/coach/mentor,  or someone who actually knew what they were doing AND who was willing to walk me through it all, I was going to keep failing.

When I think of my online experience, I equate it to a vending machine type situation.  Like all those “get rich without doing much” products so prevalent online, you can find vending machines all over the place.  And once you slide your change or dollars into that money making machine, you get your vending machine fare.  If you’re lucky it’ll tide you over until you can get to something better.  Yet how many of you have had a frustrating experience with a vending machine?  Yeah, I thought so.  I mean, there it is, you can see it…it’s RIGHT THERE behind the glass!  Sure, it may be some stale candy bar or flat soda but you don’t know that.  All you know is right now, it’s what you want and all that lies between you and your vending machine prize is this invisible barrier.  How frustrating is that?  And what do you do when you have this problem with your vending machine?  Who do you turn to?  It’s not like there is a handy service man hanging around to aid you.  No, it’s just you and the machine and maybe a “service number” somewhere on the side of the machine.  Good luck with that.

You know, that’s pretty much what most of my on-line experiences felt like.  I bought the hype, the dream but somehow things just never worked out like I’d been promised.  When I got “stuck”, sometimes I had a number to call but the people on the other end of the line didn’t deliver the dream either.  Yet despite all the frustration, I woke up one day to realize I was really addicted to those promises of instant online riches.  So, I decided to quit.  Like any addict, I thought I’d take one last look around just in case and what I found was about 30 minutes of a little thing called HOPE.  I say 30 minutes because that’s about how long the video was of Alex Jeffreys talking about his new coaching program.  I thought if anyone could help me break my addiction to the vending machine mentality (aka online pipe dreams) it was him.  Nor was I wrong.

Hey, enough about my experience.  How about you?  Yes, you.  If you’re anything like me, you’re probably high off the rush of the latest, greatest vending machine product you just bought (but haven’t opened yet) that promised you everything.  But it’s going to underdeliver and leave you feeling unsatisfied.  I know because I’ve been there so, so many times.  So please, just stop for a minute and ask yourself why you keep doing the same crazy thing and hope for different results THIS time.  It’s the siren song, my friend.  But you know, you can do what you want.  We’re all adults here.  If you want to stick with your addiction, I understand.  Yet, I’ve gotta tell ya that it pains me to see you this way.  Really.  That feeling you’re feeling is still so fresh to me that it might as well have been yesterday that I was right where you are now.  However, that means I’m one day ahead of you.  And I turned and chose another path and you know what?  It’s great over here!  I feel so much better than when I was in your shoes (yesterday).  I’m not gloating, I’m just telling it like it is.

I know I’m getting lengthy here but this is the good part.  It’s true what they say–you can make big money online, but you need help, plain and simple.  You need a coach, a friend, heck you need a whole community (committed to your success of course) and you need a new perspective.

What do people recovering from addictions do?  They get into some kind of therapy, right?  They have a little community that shares their stories, lends support and holds them accountable.  Now if that scares you a little, keep in mind what I’m talking about isn’t REALLY therapy, okay?  So relax.

I’m talking about a place where you can go to find support, encouragement, answers, guidence and even some genuine friendships.  Right now my fellow students and I are all blogging about our various online experiences as we work our way through Alex Jeffreys Coaching Program (now closed to the public).  If you’re interested, you can read up on Alex all over the internet but his latest ebook, Guru’s Dream says alot.  It’s really powerful.  And it’s free at www.gurusdream.com.  You can also check out our class progress and find some really helpful stuff too.  None of us are experts…yet but we’re being coached by one of the best internet guys around, in my opinion.  Now, I don’t have everyone’s blog sites but two places to check out are www.deanholland.com (who has a great little ebook about setting up a blog, also free), and www.garryparkes.com who does have a list of fellow student sites and a helpful newsletter of his own.

I’ll be back with (shorter) blogs about my own online adventure with Alex’s Coaching Program because it’s awesome!  And gosh, thanks for wading through this really long blog with me.  I wish you much success in all you do.  Ciao for now.

    Hi Nikolett

What a great design…makes me feel all christmassy now :)

Well done on getting your blog up and running. That is always the hardest part -taking action.

Just keep focused and remember to try and add something at least every two days if not more. Not essential but it gets the search engine spiders interested.

    Best wishes
    Doug

    Doug,

Thanks for visiting my blog. I am currently moving it to my own site and still don’t know how to change the theme, add plug-ins and other important blogging things. Still learning but I’ll get there!

  5. Hi there, Nikolett,
Just wanted to drop by and say hello. I, too enjoyed your “story” and hope to visit often.

I do appreciate hearing how people get their start and what motivates them to choose this path.

Hope you’ll drop by and say hello when you have time. I’m happy to help you with themes & plugins, if you want.

    All the best,
    Theresa

Theresa thanks for visiting my site and your kind words. I’ve been working on getting my blog up on my own domain, so I haven’t added any content, which I need to do. I will probably take you up on your offer with plugins since I haven’t gotten that far yet.
I will check out your site later on today.
    Ciao!
